Monroeville and Monroe County finally has a FUN, mass-appeal FM radio station that always draws a huge audience and reaches more than SIXTEEN TIMES the number of people as the local newspaper!
Monroeville, Alabama, at one time had a small and local FM radio station designed to serve the local community with local programming, news and information. More recently, that station, in favor of serving other (presumably) much more profitable communities, applied to the Federal Communications Commission to increase power and to move up to a larger tower. Of course, this comes with the hefty price-tag of higher rates to local advertisers while, although reaching other communities many miles away with their ads, most people hearing these ads 50 or more miles away will never drive to Monroeville to purchase a local hamburger (or mop or broom, etc.). The "bigger station" also added satellite programming which is anything but local as it originates from a studio in far away from Monroeville.
This leaves our station, 100.3 Fox-FM, WIZD, as the only local FM radio station truly operating, 100%, from Monroeville, Alabama.
Although 100.3 Fox-FM, WIZD, has not ever undergone a change of ownership, it has changed a good bit since it's original inception in 2000 and 2001:
We believe that Monroeville deserves to have it's own local FM radio station which originates all programming from within our local community and we pledge to remain here in service to local businesses and residents who have come to expect programming and community service from our station that wins awards globally and is rivaled by no other while keeping 100% of our operation truly local, right here in our local community.
