Albert Coleman, 63, of Quinton died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. Arrangements will be announced later by Bell Funeral Home Sumiton.

Betty Bryson, 69, of Dora died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. Arrangements will be announced later by Bell Funeral Home Sumiton.

Billy Ray “Bill” Smith, 71, of Jasper

Billy Ray “Bill” Smith, 71, of Jasper (formerly of Winfield) died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his residence. Bill was born Nov. 5, 1937, in Fayette County to the late Earl Buford and Ruthal Jewell Hall Smith. He was a resident of Winfield most of his life until he moved to Jasper three years ago. He retired as a truck driver and was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, Gaylon and Johnny Smith; a sister, Joyce Colburn; and one son, Kenneth Marshall Smith.

He is survived by two sons, Darren (Misty) Smith and Kevin Smith, both of Jasper; a daughter, Sandy (Jim) Kuykendall of Jasper; grandchildren, Carter Smith, KoriLee Gunter, Kason Smith and Skylar Kuyendall; two sisters, Hazel Christian and Ann Griffin, both of Winfield; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home, with burial following in the Winfield City Cemetery. Visitation will be today at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Miles Funeral Home of Winfield directing.


Jimmy Lee Nethery, 67, of Empire

Jimmy Lee Nethery, 67, of Empire, passed away Friday July 3, 2009. He was a retired roofer and was a U. S. Army veteran.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 6, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in New Horizon Memorial Gardens. Visitation was Monday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Sumiton directed.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Myrtle Beavers; his father, Delver A. Nethery and brother, W.D. Nethery.

Survivors include his son, Charles (Darlene) Davenport; daughter, Darlene (William) Brasher; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his mother, Addie E. Nethery Plylar; sisters, Anna (Doyle) Hughes, Nell (Ed) Aldrich and Sharon Nethery; brothers, Auburn Nethery, Harold (Charlotte) Nethery, Terry Wayne (Cindy) Nethery, Dennis Nethery and Keith (Becky) Plylar and sister in law, Beth Nethery.

Judy House Hackney Hall, 67, of Jasper

Judy House Hackney Hall, 67, of Jasper passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Townley with burial at Old Union Cemetery of Walker County. The Rev. Ben McCain will officiate. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the First Baptist Church of Townley from noon until 1 p.m.

She was a member of New Bethal Baptist Church of Jasper. She was active in both the “Odd Fellows” and “Rebekah” Lodge. She had been the leader of the TOPS Club for several years.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Leonard House; mother, Elsie Earlene House of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sons, Willard Earl Hackney II of Jasper, John Leonard Hackney of Jasper; daughter, Connie Fortsythe of Tennessee; and brother, John Marvin House of Jasper.

She is survived by her son, David Hackney of Jasper; brother, Walter House and his wife, Linda, of Eldridge; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and other relatives.

She will be missed by all who knew her and was dearly loved.
