Bobby Ray Gilbert, 73, of
Carrollton
Bobby Ray Gilbert, 73, of Carrollton, passed away Sunday, July
19, 2009, at Pickens County Medical Center. Funeral services will be Wednesday,
July 22, at 11 a.m. at Pickensville First Baptist Church with burial in the
Pilgrim Rest Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Jones and the Rev. Al Brown will officiate.
Skelton Funeral Home of Reform will direct. Visitation will be today, July 21,
from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and 10:30 until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the
church.
Mr. Gilbert was born June 29, 1936, in Cordova to the late Harley Gilbert and
Venita G. Ferguson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pickensville,
retired from Drummond Coal Inc. with 39 years of service and was a U.S. Air
Force veteran.
Bobby lived in Pickensville for the past eight years. He loved to fish, watch
his purple martin birds and be with his family and friends. More than anything,
he loved to tell people how God had blessed him. He never met a stranger and was
a friend to all. He will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Jewel Gilbert of Pickensville; daughters, Becki
McGough (Mickey) of Carbon Hill, Belinda Gilbert (Larry Kirkland) and Bonnie
Hagen (Scott), all of Cullman, and Bobbie Rae Rucks (Jimmy) of Albertville;
step-children, Jeff Johnson of New Orleans, Keith Johnson (Julisa) of Reform and
Jan Bailey (Tim) of Tuscaloosa; sister, Patricia Payne (Hilbert) of Jasper; 13
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two nephews; and a special nephew, Ray
Robbins (Teresa) of Cordova.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell Roberts, Joe Irving, Fulton Prevost, Jerry Kelley,
Ray Robbins and Hugh Blackwell. Honorary pallbearers will be UMWA Local 1948,
Melissa Blakney and the many friends and neighbors of Rivermont.
Bobby’s wishes were that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of

Larry E. Manasco, 64, owner and operator of Manasco’s Steakhouse
in Tuscaloosa County, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009. Funeral services will
be Wednesday, July 22, at 11 a.m. in Collins-Burke Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation will be from 7 until 9 p.m. today, and from 9 until 11 a.m.
Wednesday, at the funeral Home. No graveside service will be held.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Manasco; and parents, Archie
and Eloise Manasco.
He is survived by his wife, Shelia Kilgore Manasco; son, Brian Manasco and his
wife, Dana; sister, Brenda Busby and her husband, Johnny; step-daughter, Angelia
Blalock and her husband Mark; stepsons, Jeff Busby and Jeremy Busby and his
wife, Carla; two grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ray Brunner, Roger O’Shields, Mason Kilgore, David Terry,
Scot Pendley and Mason McGough. Honorary pallbearers will be Everett Hardin, Ken
Hamilton and Byron Burgess.
The family would like to thank the employees of Manasco’s Steakhouse for their
hard work and dedication during Larry’s illness. You will never know how much
you are loved and appreciated.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Pauline Hill.

Meghan Thomaston Kornegay and her husband, Eric, of Pelham; grandchildren, Jade

Marlin J. Scott, 76, of Trenton, Mich. and
formerly of Walker County, passed away on Sunday, April 12,
2009. Masonic services were held on Wednesday, April 15, at 7
p.m. at the Martenson Family Funeral Home in Trenton.
Funeral services were held from the funeral home on Thursday,
April 16, with burial taking place in the Michigan Memorial Park
Cemetery.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara Scott; dearest father of
Jack (Elaine); loving brother of Gertrude Rowe and Martha
Tallant; grandfather of Michael and Steven; and
great-grandfather to Jacob and Justin.
